Never Mind, No Green Shoots for Retail

It looks like retailers are not faring so well after all.  From an article published today at DallasNews.com titled “Speakers at Retailing Summit in Dallas offer sobering assessment” (emphasis mine):

Retailers shouldn’t expect to see the pre-recession shopper in this economic recovery, and a shakeout with store closings is still ahead, speakers said Thursday at the Texas A&M Center for Retailing Studies’ annual Retailing Summit.

Banks are keeping retailers alive with generous credit lines, but that won’t last forever, Michael Exstein, senior retail analyst at Credit Suisse, said during the Dallas event.

"It’s very odd that we seem to have stopped closing stores in this country even though business is so awful," he said.

Still think CAP rates are headed down?
